What is PRP?
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatment uses a patient’s own blood to stimulate growth and repair of tissues in the body. Blood is drawn from the patient in the special tubes and then it is put into a machine which is known as a centrifuge. Also this centrifuge filters and concentrates the sample so that the platelet-rich plasma is injected back into the patient’s body at the site that is injured or diseased.
Platelet rich plasma therapy has been in use for several years in sports medicine, arthritis relief, hair loss therapy, anti-ageing medicine, and injury therapy or healing. The concentrated growth factors in PRP therapy can stimulate the regeneration of tissues and growth of new cells.
Now, PRP therapy is in the domain of fertility.
PRP therapy in the domain of fertility has two areas:
Endometrial rejuvenation : Endometrial rejuvenation is the process in which the woman's PRP is injected into the wall of the uterus in the hope of thickening the endometrium and making it more receptive for the embryos. This procedure is done to make the womb more receptive for the embryo or embryos. This procedure is done to help the embryo or embryos implant in the womb.
Endometrial inflammation and scarring can be hurdles in the implantation of the embryo. The procedure of endometrial rejuvenation helps in reducing the inflammation and stimulating the progesterone receptors for the growth of the endometrium.
Ovarian rejuvenation : Ovarian PRP for fertility treatment involves the injection of a woman's platelet-rich plasma into her ovaries in a bid to enhance the quantity and quality of eggs we are able to retrieve (for IVF or fertility preservation), or even for a natural pregnancy.
Ovarian rejuvenation treatment is usually chosen by a woman with a low ovarian reserve.
PRP & Ovarian Rejuvenation
If you are facing problems in conceiving, you may be wondering about PRP for fertility. Perhaps you’ve heard about endometrial rejuvenation for the women with thin womb linings or ovarian rejuvenation for those with low ovarian reserve. A new frontier in fertility medicine, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Platelet Rich Plasma treatment for fertility, uses growth factors from a woman’s own blood to try to enhance her fertility. The treatment is still experimental but at Seeds of Innocens IVF we have found many patients are benefitting from it. So what is PRP for fertility really? How does endometrial rejuvenation work and who may benefit from it.
What Is PRP Fertility Treatment for the Uterus?
In terms of PRP treatment for the uterus, we are talking about how this PRP, when it is all ready, is gently inserted into the womb. The idea is to inject these healing factors directly into the uterine lining, as this is an area of tissue that needs to be thick and receptive for an embryo to implant. This is often considered when a woman has what is known as thin endometrium, where the lining is not thick enough for an embryo to implant, even with hormonal injections to help it along. It is also considered when a woman has had several embryo transfers, but nothing has resulted, even when she has had very good quality embryos.
To give you an idea of what we are talking about, an embryo is like a seed, and the lining is like soil. If you don’t nourish your soil enough, even if you have a healthy seed, it is difficult for it to grow. The idea of PRP is to nourish your soil.
Your doctor might consider PRP for your uterus if you:
Take oestrogen injections but your lining is still thin
Is PRP Ovarian Rejuvenation Safe?
PRP is completely natural since it is derived entirely from your own body. Your body recognizes PRP because it is made by your body.
Most women find the procedure quite tolerable. Some discomforts experienced during the procedure include:
Mild cramping during or right after the procedure, like menstrual cramps
Light spotting for a day or two
Rarest of rare, a slight risk of infection (as hygiene is always followed)
However, PRP is not for everyone. Some women suffering from blood conditions or infections are not candidates for PRP. This is why the procedure always begins with a thorough medical assessment.
The process will proceed according to this established framework.
Final Thought
Undergoing IVF requires patients to have bravery and perseverance and strong belief in positive outcomes especially after their first attempt has failed. The PRP fertility treatment serves as a tool that assists certain women in reaching their goals through its application to uterine lining issues which have prevented their success.
The product does not provide a solution for every problem. The solution does not suit all individuals. The treatment delivers substantial benefits to specific patients when administered during the appropriate medical situation.
If you have been diagnosed with thin lining or experienced unsuccessful implantation we invite you to schedule a consultation with us. We will assess your entire medical situation before providing our expert opinion to determine whether PRP treatment for the uterus or any other treatment option is suitable for your current condition.
